Warning: Some Assembly Required - Part 1

Big Idea: God has a design for our lives. Sin has damaged us. The Gospel is God's

work of restoration. We are saved by grace, and we are also called to grow.

"Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will

complete it until the day of Jesus Christ." — Philippians 1:6 (NKJV)

1. God Designed Us to Grow in Christ

We are saved by grace for the purpose of good works. Growth is not about self- improvement; it is about being formed into the image of Christ.

  • Ephesians 2:10 — We are His workmanship, created for good works.

  • Colossians 2:6–7 — As you received Him, so walk in Him, rooted and built up.

Reflection: Am I becoming more rooted in Jesus, or am I only trying to look “put together" on the outside?

2. Sin Has Broken What God Designed

Sin is a departure from God’s design. You cannot heal what you refuse to bring into the light. Shame hides; conviction leads to confession.

  • Romans 3:23 — All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.

  • Psalm 139:23–24 — Search me, O God, and know my heart... see if there is any wicked way in me.

Reflection: What is God showing me right now? Where am I resisting His design?

3. The Gospel Restores Us and Continues God's Work

The Gospel is not just the "start" of the Christian life; it is the power for the whole life.

Self-assembly leads to exhaustion; abiding leads to fruit.

  • Romans 5:8 — While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

  • 2 Corinthians 5:17 — If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation.

  • Galatians 3:3 — Having begun in the Spirit, are you now being made perfect by the flesh?

  • John 15:5 — Without Me you can do nothing.

Reflection: Have I switched from receiving from Christ to performing for Him? Where am I tired?

4. The Danger of Legalism (Design + Brokenness - Gospel)

Seeing the standard (Design) and our failure (Brokenness) without the Savior (Gospel) makes us "informed and exhausted." This is Legalism.

  • Romans 7:24–25 — Who will deliver me? I thank God—through Jesus Christ our Lord!

  • Romans 3:20 / Galatians 3:24 — The law shows us our sin and points us to Christ.

  • Romans 10:2–3 — Seeking to establish their own righteousness... not submitted to God.

  • Galatians 2:21 — If righteousness comes through the law, then Christ died in vain.

Reflection: Am I carrying an "index card" of performance? Is my foundation based on my effort or Christ's finished work?

Monday Morning "Assembly Instructions”

  1. Stay Rooted: Walk with Him to enjoy Him, not to earn from Him.

  2. Be Honest: Confess sin quickly and bring it into the light.

  3. Trust the Gospel: Your hope is His cross, not your self-repair kit.

  4. Take the Next Step: Obey in His strength, not your own.

  5. Check Your Foundation: Rest
