When you feel like no one stands with you - you are not alone

Now David was greatly distressed, for the people spoke of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and his daughters. But David strengthened himself in the LORD his God."
1 Samuel 30:6 (NKJV)
Some seasons hit you from every direction at once. The pressure doesn't only come from outside. It also comes from the people you expected to stand beside you. If you're in a season like that, 1 Samuel 30 is for you.
The Day Everything Fell Apart
David and his men came home to Ziklag and found the city burned. Their families were gone, taken captive by the Amalekites.
Then David and the people who were with him lifted up their voices and wept, until they had no more power to weep.
1 Samuel 30:4 (NKJV)
Here is David, grieving and afraid for his family. He must have felt like the world was crushing in on him. But then the men who had followed David, fought beside him, and trusted him, turned on him in their grief. They even talked about stoning him. Now David wasn't only facing an attack from outside. He was also losing the people closest to him.
Many of us know what that feels like. Maybe it's a betrayal at work, criticism from people you've served, a family that has pulled away, or friends who have gone quiet just when you need them. Hard times on their own are painful. Hard times without support can feel unbearable.
You Are Not the First
Scripture is honest about this kind of pain. The apostle Paul wrote near the end of his life:
At my first defense no one stood with me, but all forsook me. May it not be charged
against them. But the Lord stood with me and strengthened me...
2 Timothy 4:16–17 (NKJV)
Look closely at the word “but.” Everyone left Paul, but the Lord stood with him. People may walk away, but God doesn't.
You Are Not Alone
Even when the people closest to you let you down, God doesn't let go of you.
When my father and my mother forsake me,
Then the LORD will take care of me.
Psalm 27:10 (NKJV)
You may feel pressed, confused, and attacked, but you are not finished.
We are hard-pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed,
but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken;
struck down, but not destroyed.
2 Corinthians 4:8–9 (NKJV)
The Turning Point
What David did next is what turned his story around. He didn't wait for his men to change their minds or for someone to come and comfort him. With no prophet beside him and no friend to lift his head, "David strengthened himself in the LORD his God."
His circumstances hadn't changed yet. His city was still in ashes and his men were still angry. But David turned to God first, and that's where his recovery began.
A Word for You This Week
If you feel attacked, alone, or misunderstood, don't wait for someone else to rescue you before you turn to God. He is closer than you think.
The LORD is near to those who have a broken heart,
And saves such as have a contrite spirit.
Psalm 34:18 (NKJV)
My prayer for you this week is that you'll know, deep in your heart, that you are not forsaken. People may step away, but the Lord is standing with you.
A Prayer
Lord, when I feel attacked and alone, remind me that You are standing with me. When people walk away, help me remember that You never will. Hold my broken heart and give me the courage to turn to You first. In Jesus' name, amen.
